Wingnut Republican Rep. Michelle Bachman of my home state of Minnesota is back at it again. Seriously, this bitch has something new and outrageous every week now that Obama is in town. On local talk radio last weekend, Bachman expressed her fear that Obama's plan to expand AmeriCorps from 75,000 to 250,000 would mean mandatory "re-education camps for young people". From
Minnesota Independent:
Bachman: It's under the guise of - quote - volunteerism. But it's not volunteerism at all. It's paying people to do work on behalf of the government....
I believe that there is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service. And the real concern is that there provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in the philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of those politically correct forums.
For one, it's kind of perverse that Obama is one of the few politicians in history to ever follow through on his major campaign promises while then getting demonized for doing exactly what he told you he was going to do. Don't act like you didn't see this coming!
Secondly, "It's not volunteerism. It's paying people to do work on behalf of the government." You mean like a
job? Because recent college grads in 2009 have so many of those. Unless you ask Michael Steele, in which case the government only creates
work, not jobs. What the hells is a "politically correct forum"? Bush and Cheney through No Child Left Behind created a generation of kids who lack critical thinking skills but can write a perfect paragraph for a useless test. Hmm.. the ideological apparatus was definitely at work there and Bachman didn't seem to mind. It's not like our schools could use more teachers, i.e. recent college grads through programs like Teach for America. Republicans like a dumb populous. They are easier to control.
And can we please put a moratorium on the Nazism allusions so that the next time something comes along that actually is as bad as Nazism we take it as a serious threat?
Crazy's like this always bring to mind the ultimate question one must ask his or herself when confronted with a republican: Lying or stupid? In her case I think its both. C'mon St. Cloud! Do better!
Note: The picture above is my favorite Bachman moment! After her proposed Amendment to the State Constitution to ban same-sex marriage was thoroughly rejected and responded to with protests by activists at the capital, Bachman hid in the bushes from all the scary gays upon leaving the building! Bachman's other greatest hits
here.
